Monday the 27th of May, we have the pleasure of presenting Syria scholar and ethnographic filmmaker Joshka Wessels in Nordisk-Syrisk Kultur Salon. Joshka Wessels is a Senior Lecturer at Malmö University, Sweden and Senior Fellow with the Centre for Syrian Studies (CSS) at Saint Andrews University, UK. She will present her upcoming book which will be published by Bloomsbury/IB Tauris entitled “Documenting Syria: Film-making, Video Activism and Revolution”. Joshka’s book is the world’s first history of Syrian Documentary Cinema and will be an indispensable resource for any scholar interested in dissident grassroot media and documentary film from Syria. The book is partly based on Joshka’s postdoctoral research project between 2014 and 2016 at Copenhagen University Denmark on the role of grassroots videos and YouTube in the Syrian uprisings and the consequent years she spent writing and finalizing this book as visiting scholar and senior researcher at Lund University, Sweden.
The talk will take place at Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke Fælledvej 12, Equality Room at 17:00 o’clock.
